Camera Obscure was presented as my MFA thesis show at the University of Minnesota. I have taken the medium of photography
as my subject, and I have used its many histories and artifacts to create metaphors
of loss, nostalgia, violence, and death. While this may sound like a most dismal
exhibition, I have also crafted it with a light heart. Camera Obscure is an amalgamation of dark humor, false sentiments, and earnest irony. This
approach has allowed me to voice my own love/hate relationship with photography,
as well as create works that both criticize and celebrate society’s desire
for the ever-lasting moment, and how photography is employed to realize this.
